The Whistle

Police investigation fiction feature film

Written by Fernanda Chazan

Synopsis: JÉSSICA, 37, a Brazilian Civil Police investigator, works to unravel a series of murders that afflict the Venezuelan community in São Mateus, east of São Paulo. To do this, she must overcome the community’s mysticism and even her own fears. Some Venezuelans believe it is the terrifying spirit El Silbón, typical of Venezuelan folklore, but Jéssica goes against the system to prove that the crimes were committed by a xenophobic killer who knows the country’s beliefs in depth. For her, the investigation is a way to alleviate her own grief, as her husband was murdered when he was racistly mistaken for a thief and the case was never solved. In addition to unraveling the crimes to fulfill her duty, she is determined to do justice to alleviate her own grief and ends up managing to arrest not only the perpetrator of the crimes but also the mastermind behind it – the same doctor responsible for the death of her husband by denying him treatment.
